This particular project which was funded by Malta Council for Voluntary Sector was aimed to provide intensive literacy intervention to vulnerable students in their home environment.  It was targeted for five to six year old students.  Eligible participants had to have literacy difficulties as well as a vulnerable support system.

Selected tutors were given specialised training on early intervention literacy programme by Mr. Christopher Bugeja, a literacy specialist.  Each tutor was provided with a box of resources, flashcards, books, games to use with the children during the programme.  The selected participants were assessed in the beginning and at the end of the programme.

The project ran from January through to December 2019 and 20 students from various church schools benefited from this project. The project was concluded by a literacy celebration at the Central Public Library in Floriana.  The children and their parents/guardians had the opportunity to roam around the library for a scavenger hunt, learn about the public libraries services and acquire a library card.  To celebrate the event the programme included animated story-telling, awards of certificates and books.
